Types of Migraines

If you have constant migraines, enjoying life can be difficult. While migraines can wreak havoc on your health, you can find relief by seeking chiropractic care from Back to Health Chiropractic. Chiropractors offer various techniques to treat the root cause of migraines. If you suffer from frequent migraines, we can offer natural and non-invasive treatment methods to reduce their severity and frequency. Here are a few common migraines we often see patients suffering from at our Worcester office.

Migraine with aura

An aura is a warning sign, characterized by symptoms like seeing wavy lines, dark spots, hallucinations, and blurred visions. These symptoms may last well over 5 and 20 minutes, but less than an hour before you experience a headache accompanied by other unpleasant symptoms.

Migraine without aura

This is the most common migraine. Unfortunately, this type doesn’t have any warning signs. Most patients will experience head pain on one side of the head, especially behind the left eye. Other symptoms include light sensitivity, nausea, and vomiting. Symptoms will also worsen with increased physical activity.

Menstrual migraines

Hormonal changes during menstruation may trigger migraines. Menstrual migraines occur before, during, and after periods and last longer than other migraines.

Silent migraines

You can experience a migraine without any head pain. However, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity may be present with no head pain.

Abdominal migraines

Symptoms include stomachaches, vomiting, and nausea. These migraines are more common in children than adults and become classic migraines over time.

Hemiplegic migraines

These migraines can be scary because they yield symptoms similar to having a stroke. Hemiplegic migraines exhibit symptoms like temporal paralysis, loss of coordination, numbness, and dizziness.
